Hang the string lights in a place where the sun can charge the solar panel. If you want the string lights to switch on before it gets dark, you can place a piece of fabric over the solar cells, but remember to remove the "blackout" again so the string lights can charge.

The Sofia string light has IP44 certification, which means it is protected against insects and small solid particles down to one millimetre and can withstand heavy water splashes from all directions.
